First you need to run voltage to the ignition coil. Run a jumper wire from battery positive to the + side of the coil. This will be the terminal that does not go to the distributor. Now you want the engine to turn over. Run a heavy gauge wire, like a jumper cable from the positive post on the battery to the starter relay terminal that goes down to the starter. This should get the engine running. Don't run it for very long with 12 volts going to the coil or you will burn up the points quicker than normal. See if you can find a wiring diagram for this truck. It will help you get that mess cleaned up. My 69 Torino looked like that when I got it 4 years ago. I got a wiring diagram and followed it and got everything working and a whole lot neater looking.

I tried to do that and nothing happens at all, what should I check first , and thanks for the quick response , how can I get the starter to turn over to see if it does?

Try running a cable from the battery + down to the starter terminal. Make sure the truck is in Park or Neutral so you don't get run over if it starts. Check and make sure that you have a good ground connection between Battery - and the engine block. If it still won't turn over, then you need to remove the starter and bench test the starter. If this truck has an FE series engine, you are going to have 3 bolts to remove to get the starter off. The one bolt can be accessed with a long extention. I'll check back with you later today. I have to work this morning. Good Luck.

You may be getting way ahead of yourself. Get a breaker bar and socket on the crankshaft bolt and see if it turns over at all. If you can't turn it that way, the starter won't either.

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, that is a Duraspark box in the picture. Won't start jumping from the coil. Distributor plugs into the box, power goes through the box first.
