Gas valve sealer

Does anyone have a good or excellent sealer for installing the gas valve under the gas tank. I have heard of special Teflon tape for gas connection, but I believe that is for natural gas not gasoline. Any help would be appreciated.

This is what I use. Have never had an issue with leakage.

I’ve read that teflon tape is for ease of removal of pipe fittings, not for sealing threads. Good pipe threads are designed to seal with sealant, but with the need to clock a gas valve sealant is needed. I’ve used Permatex number 2 non hardening.

My Choice Indian Shellac! Or if all parts are in good shape you shouldn't need anything. Henry Ford Way!

I use Locktite PST 592 and Teflon tape to make sure it seals. The 592 is an anaerobic-curing adhesive sealant that makes disassembly easy after it cures. I have had a problem in the past with permatex making taking something apart difficult.

Good info. As an aside, I’ve had Teflon tape dissolve with gasoline and no longer use it. And yes, typically when something is listed for gas as an application, that means natural gas. (You sometimes see “OWG” or “WOG” for plumbing fittings, that means fuel oil, water and natural gas.) Gasoline is spelled out completely.
 
Gary Wa is correct. If the fitting threads and tank threads are clean and the threads are in good condition you should be able to use nothing. The tank maximum static pressure is approx. 15psi (full tank). As an added measure of safety I would apply a small amount of Blue Monster which we use on all our antique fire engine fuel lines.
 
I used Tite Seal for many years but it has now rebranded as Niel Seal using the same formulas. It was called out in several helicopter maintenance manuals for use in sealing fuel tank cover plate and sending unit gaskets where no o-ring seals were used. It can withstand both gasoline and jet fuels as well as natural gas and steam. It can be used on thread joints and as a gasket sealer as previously mentioned. I use the medium weight sealant N25-66.
