Front turn signal problem on 1956 Thunderbird

I think you are talking about the turn signal switch in the steering column. That is the case with my 56 Tbird as well. But the wires from that switch exit the steering column and go into a wiring junction box under the dash, then exit that box and go to the rear lights, dashboard and another wiring junction box on the front left inner fender where they then are distributed to all of the front lights and turn signals. Some wires actually cross over to a smaller junction box on the right front inner fender and ultimately go to the headlamp hi and low beams, parking light and turn signal.

I just learned all this when (with help from this forum) I had to rewire the larger junction box on the left front to correct a problem with my front turn signals. There are a total of 16 terminal connections on the left front terminal box, 8 on each siide.

This has always been the case with Ford starting with the intro of signal lights (possible exception the very early years of signal lights). I'm sure today's cars are completely different..

Don't know when Ford changed things, but in 54 cars turn signals and stop lights were connected through turn signal switch.
