Forged hood retainers

I have been wondering for a while about some hood retainers I have. They are for 28/29 model A's. Attached is a picture of the two hood retainers I have. The top one has a pair of stiffening bridges on it and the lower one doesn't. I am wondering if one was used on 28's and one on 29's or if they are just made by different vendors taking a little liberty in making hood retainers for Ford. Does any know anything about the two styles? This is not a big deal, just curious.

Rusty.. It's my understanding that the top one, with the ribs is early. M y car, 8-28,
has the lower one. I don't know when the change over took place. I would like to know.

Is there a part number on the bottom?

Neither one has a part number on it. The black one has a "D16" on the bottom.

top (winged) style is early 28 ... my 1/28 has this style ... not sure date of change to lower style

Thanks for the replies fellows. It seems like the upper one is an early 28 style and I have a later 28 so I think I should use the lower style.

When I removed mine from my 1929 Standard Coupe (Sept./Oct.), it had a small peice of fabric between the retainer and the tank lip, fastened with slotted head dome screws and square nuts and LW.
