Flywheel for 50 Ford flathead

What are some companies that sell a flywheel for a 50 Ford flathead? Who had the best price? Anybody sell used resurfaced flywheels?

It would be good to know where you live. Those flywheels should be fairly easy to find, but no used flywheel will be cheap if it has to travel from Maine to So Cal.

If you're looking for a used one, contact Mac VanPelt or Michael at 3rd Gen - both will probably have what you need. Just make sure you know what type of clutch and throw-out bearing you're using.

Sorry. I am in Louisiana. Your right. I may have to go with someone like Speedway for new one for the shipping part. Hopefully I can have mine surfaced. May go ahead and contact 3rd Gen.
I assume I have the 9 1/2" clutch. How can I tell for sure. Thanks for the information.

usually you can see the witness mark where the old disc sat...measure it. Keep in mind 8ba 's have the PP bolts drilled all the way thru, where as pre 8ba's have blind holes for the PP. Around here, many auto parts stores have the machine to grind a flywheel, its about 40 bucks.

You should be able to have your original one surfaced. It is a really common procedure, and any basic engine machine shop can handle it.

Just as an added comment. Have the flywheel, disc and pressure plate balanced as a unit. you won't be sorry and it's not that expensive.

On a used one be sure its for a late flathead, not an early. The late ones for 8BA are drilled through while the early ones have blind holes for pressure plate bolts. It will bolt to the engine, but it won't work-I found out the hard way after having a flywheel turned. Also be aware that there are differences in a Long style clutch (pairs of PP bolts together) used on Fords and the B&B style clutch (6 PP bolt holes equally spaced) used on Mercury's originally. The B&B style pressure plates are harder to find but if you have the complete setup either will work as the clutch disc is the same.

Balance the flywheel first- you may some day change the clutch.
Then bolt on the pressure plate, MARK it, and balance.
Don't think there's much you can do with the disc, and the position changes.

All In My Opinion, Karl
