Fly wheel ring gear

If it doesn't go on the first time, try again doing anything that might make the flywheel colder and the ring gear hotter. I got one on yesterday on the third try.
(1) flywheel out of the freezer, put in the driveway (30 degrees outside), pulled the ring gear out of the 550 oven.
(2) Same thing with flywheel packed with dry ice.
(3) After thinking about the 20 seconds it was taking me to carry the hot gear out to the flywheel, I brought the flywheel into the kitchen. With only 3 seconds from opening the oven the gear dropped right on.
The next step would have been to use a charcoal fire.
To find dry ice, call supermarkets and ask for the frozen foods manager. It comes in a tough plastic bag that you moderately throw/drop on to cement or asphalt to break into small pieces to fill the flywheel.

You said the flywheel surface looks good. I would have it surface ground. This is not very expensive to have done and removes any surface glaze and small grooves.

you could use a cutoff wheel to carefully split the old ring gear then it will come off easy, don't hit the flywheel.

the ring gears that i have used are tapered teeth only on one side.

in alberta for 8 month of the year we can just put the flywheel outside for a few hours to shrink it.

heat up that ring gear and it will drop rite on, no need to drive it on with a punch.
