don't put a lot of grease on the cable, if you do it can travel up the cable and work its way into the speedo head and really gum things up, im getting old and I cant remember if you can simply remove the speedo from its housing, or if you have to un bend the housing to remove the speedo, im thinking you have to un bend the outer housing to get to the speedo, any way, what ever it takes when you have the speedo head out of the housing, you will see a small welch plug, it looks like a real small freeze plug, its on top of the housing where the speedo cable screws on, find a threaded screw that you can screw into the plug so you can use it to pull the plug out, under the plug you will find a felt wick, about an half inch long, use a needle to pry it out, clean it with paint thinner or gasoline, dry and set aside, use 3 n 1 oil or sewing machine oil to drop in the hole where the wick came out of, use 2 or 3 drops and then turn the shaft with your fingers till the shaft turns easy and free,, put the felt wick back in hole and add 3 or 4 more drops of oil on it replace plug and put speedo back in the housing, the speedo needle becomes dry after many years and binds and causes the speedo needle to bounce up and down, if you can easily put a little oil on all the moving parts in speedo, just use a little to lube those parts
