End of Ford Australia

I realize this forum is mostly focused on the US Fords. But I did want to take a moment to mention that of October this year, the last Ford Falcon, et all, the last Fords will be produced in Australia. The Falcon name plate has run from June of 1960 until this year, when they will produce the final go, Falcon Sprint XR6 Turbos and Falcon Sprint XR8s.

Its hard to encapsulate 100 years of car building into one or two paragraphs. Its hard even just to talk about the Falcon as a name plate bases on its long life.

I was writing an article hopefully to post in the Falcon Club of America newsletter, but figured posting it here would be just as good. I do not claim its touched on everything, I did use quite a few Australian sources on this, but I feel its pretty much to the point at least in the story of the Falcon.

Holden (GM) will follow suit by ceasing production of their vehicles in Australia as well.

I always like to hear about Australian Fords or even the ones produced in South America. I only skimmed over your article but it looks very detailed and will continue later. I do not have a Falcon at this time but did have a 67 4 door 200 with stick. That was a great car. I drove it across country once and returned via the trans Canada highway in maybe 1974?? I remember getting 22-24 MPG. Car was a dark metallic green. Wish I still had it - Bob

That is truly sad. Thanks for article. I feel the same will happen here if we keep buying imports. Without the jobs of the workers who is going to buy anything?
