Many years ago we built a 54 Chev p/u with a 350/350, bla, bla, bla. Anyway, I put a carter electric pump on it, and went through 3 of the POS. The last one let me down at the Woodward Ave cruise. Walked up the street to a parts store, got a cheap $15. pump that was still on it when I sold the truck. No more Carters for this kid. :p:p

What are you using for a filter ahead of the pump? Summit is now warning not to use any type of paper element ahead of the pump as they can collapse,I lost a new Holley Red pump in less that 2 hours from a POS Fram filter,I now have a Carter P4570 like I used to run in dirt trackers with a bronze filter.

What I learned in the past three weeks on a 3500 mile trip in the 55. I used to have a small pulse pump to help the motor start after a two week or more downtime. I could turn it off and the stock pump would pull through it. I wanted a better boost pump to race with. I put on one of the Holley designs from Jeggs. The rotary pump works the same, I can turn it off and the motor runs fine. All day long at 75.

I just drove my motor home from Oregon to Las Vegas 2 days ago and had to change my low pressure fuel pump on the road which feeds a high pressure fuel pump(fuel injection)which is a Carter 4070.I carry a spare of each.I barely made it home the second wasn't much better,it was 90 to 100 degrees all thru Nevada and northern California.I had to wait in Beatty,Nv.for it to cool down. That's about 4 or 5 Carters over the years I've had,so will replace it with a Holley blue pump before the next trip.

If you want your Holley or Carter pump to be reliable get this with it: Holley 12-753 oddly Summit gets $88 + shipping on Amazon it's $70 and free shipping. The Watsons Streetworks website has an excellent and EZ to read article about relays and their importance, running an electric pump with the wrong size wiring and no relay is a death sentence for the pump no matter what brand.

When I bought the Jeggs pump I spoke about above, I bought the wire and relay kit for 29 bucks to feed it good electricity. It has a good ground, and a heat shield to keep exhaust heat away.

Hi I've had a stewart warner in my 1956 ford t-bird for yrs electric and didn't put any filter before or after just mounted it as close to the gas tank as possible and never had a problem. I'm not sure if they still make stewart warner electric pumps.
