Edelbrock 1403

What you might want to do before a CARB SWAP, is find a period DIST.

NOTE- The 1957-59 DIST is special in that it has a one piece breaker plate and controls dwell better. The downside is that FORD replaced the design in 1959 to a two-piece breaker plate design.

While the one piece is more desirable (IMO), service parts are hard to find.

DO NOT buy a CARDONE REBUILD as they were using a SBF housing (low FYB core count) and they gave many problems.

Just the DIST upgrade alone may give you the performance you are seeking.

If still wanting to go 4V ($$$) after the DIST upgrade, there are a few need-to-know tricks there also.

It’s not at all uncommon to find one engine swapped in, and non compatible parts intermixed. Not uncommon to find a large chamber head on one side, and a small chamber on the other. Or mixed ratio rocker arms. These things happened, and some are still out there. Running, surprisingly.

You’re figuring it out oldmercs, and you’re going to be really happy when it done and right.

Then you can waste the rest of the kids inheritance on upgrades, like the rest of us. But it’s really fun.

The motor was out of a later model Ford truck.

I missed that one ...

Here's a few pictures of my distributor and any identification I found on it. I need help determining what year it is and if it will work with a Edelbrock 1403.

Thanks

It just dawned on me why the 1956 LOM DIST. Has the MERC been converted to a 12V SYSTEM?

The swap required a 6V DIST if not upgraded..
