ECZ-C heads

Have the above heads and believe they are off a 312 however they have a freeze plug on each end and was wondering if they are more preferable then the heads without the freeze plugs. Are there any issues with this style of head versus the non freeze plug heads? I think Ford did away with them in 57 and went with the solid cast ones.

ECZ-C is the '56 heads, ECZ-G is the '57 heads with the larger valves and ports. Either could be off of 272, 292 or 312.

Yes, EZC-C are the '56 high compression heads. I emailed John Mummert about these a while back and he stated they did come with the core plugs on each end like previous years, for the first part of '56 production. To the best of my knowledge they were used for 1956 model year only.

Thanks for all your comments and I did go to Ford-Y-block and look at the info on these heads. Appears that other then the plugs it's a run of the mill Y block head and should be OK to use. My concern is there is no systemic problem with these heads due to the freeze plugs and not wanting to spend the money and time rebuilding them only to have issues with them later and someone on here could have advised me what to look out for.

the real hi comp, heads in 56 were the H head used on 272 auto, these heads ran the same comp, as g heads.for some reason you dont hear much about them.

they are hard to come by.i only had 1 set always kept a lookout but never got another.i brought these heads up on y blocksforever and way back in y block mag,but never got any feedback.when i had my set away back i also had a set of g heads with nothing to do one day i turned them over and leveled them and filled one of each with water.what i was using for measuring wasn exact but i was careful as i could be and both were the same.

Those would be ECG-H heads.

Got a pair compleatly done if interested.

Not all of the 272s had those heads. It was an option called "Power Pac".It included factory dual exhaust and those heads.

Since it was a somewhat more costly option than a regular 272 engine,I would think that extra price tag contributed to the low amounts of those heads being around. Therefore pretty rare to find these days.

I'm looking for a good pair of:
'55 Ford ECG-C - (272-4bbl) Heads (have one, see below)

for a '55 272 Y-Block. (Ford part # B5A 6049-L)

How do the '56 "H" heads compare? Did they come with a 272-4 bbl. too?

their were no 4 bbl on 272 in 56.that was a 55 opition only.the H heads were for 272 with auto,.since the 272 was used on the cheaper models most were standard.the comp, runs about the same with these two heads.

I will add this for general interest. I have a '55 wagon with the Power Pack option, 4bbl, automatic, dual exhaust, with ECG-C heads on the 272. It looks like they may
be the highest CR for heads in '55, 8.5:1 advertised.
