Diode type cutout getting really hot!!

Another possibility is that this diode cutout is for a Model T WHICH IS NEGATIVE GROUND, UNLIKE THE Model A which is positive ground.

They look the same as far as I know.

There are also quite a few Fun Projects voltage regulators out there but they were marked as to voltage and polarity.

An Ohm meter can be connected to the input terminal with the other probe connected to the output terminal. Current should flow from input to output but not the other way around when observing probe polarity.

Original cut outs have the can spot welded to the base. That one has screws and an opening for air circulation. No Markings that can be seen. They should be stamped PG or NG but they might be made in China for all I know.
