Crank pulley nut torque?

i cant find it in my book . i use an electric impact & locktite (blue) . never had trouble . im sure someone must know ...................... steve

I use an impact wrench when the radiator is off, but does anyone use it with the radiator on, because I cannont get the socket with a 3/4 inch drive with the 1/2 adapter, because the 3/4" extension does not fit through the crank bearing hole for me. With the radiator on, I use the the crank in the nut and hit it with a ball and peen hammer. Thanks PS For true scientific precision, I use 3 burps with the impact wrench and about 5 good whacks with the hammer.

Sure. Just get a 1/2" drive socket.

Tried that. Cant find a 1 3/8 socket with a 1/2" drive. Guess Ill look some more. Thanks

I looked all over as well. NAPA can get you one for big $$$.

Don't know where you are at but I found an inexpensive one at Northern Tool retail store.

I found one a local parts store. cost 11.00, Snap on wanted over 40.00. I think it was made in Taiwan.Looks and works good. Not sure where snap on is made LOL. Bill

Hasn't anyone figured out yet the flats on the crank nut were put there for removal rather than install?

Well...my ratchet and breaker bar work in both directions.

Just wondering, though...do you think the factory kept a crank wrench on the assembly line for this purpose?

Joe

I made a special bent box wrench for the crank nut. Using this or a socket and breaker bar, you can place it on the nut and lay the handle against the left side of the frame and click the starter (with the key off) to loosen the nut.

Here are a couple pictures of the wrench I heated and bent to fit the crank nut.

Thanks, In case someone wants to make a wrench, I just added a couple pictures as an edit rather than as a new reply and I see it didn't bring it to the top again. I'm still learning how this new forum works. Anyway you can see how to bend it and where I heated by the different coloring.
