closed car windshield weatherstrip joint

put in new windshield frame rubber weather strip on the bottom and 2 sides. The printed material I have found says to cut at a 45 degree miter where they meet and glue. I tried using super glue the last time and it did not work. I want it black and to appear as smooth as possible, something like a plastic welding gun. is there anything you have found that works well?

I used Super Glue well over 2 years ago on the windshield rubber corners and also on the quarter windows and rear window rubber ends. It looks as good today as it did when I finished. I has gone thru a lot of rainey days, cold weather, etc. Maybe you got a bad tube of super glue ?

I don't know... I see you are in California... CYANOACRYLATE ADHESIVE (SUPER GLUE) is not waterproof and water is the solvent to use if (when) you glue your fingers together. I just know I am not using it again. thanks tho'

Model Airplane "CA" glue has worked very well for me. I keep a bottle on my workbench for applications such as the windshield rubber seal. I feel that it is better than "Super Glue" and appears to be waterproof. Try your local hobby store. Gar Williams

Yes, that is what I was thinking too. stopped at the parts store yesterday, Out Of Stock. Thanks, I will definitely try it.

Thanks Del, looks like this will work pretty well. 3M Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive 3M p/n 08008 little over 10 bucks 5 oz tube. as always small project = big tube & big project = small tube. figure I have enough to do about 100 or so Model A's

If you ever need cyanoacrylate adhesive, skip the "Crazy Glue" and go to a real hobby store and get a brand meant for model airplanes, etc. It's a much more potent product. You can also get a little spray can of "kicker", which will cause the glue to harden instantly.

I'll be doing the exact same windshield gasket project in the next week or so...

Doug I also have a s/w. sure is nice to be able to just slide the windshield out anytime you want & put it on a flat surface to work on it, isn't it?

i just cut the coners correctly (tight fit) & have nothing holding them (no glue) . been good for 6 yrs now ............... steve
