Purchased a 1962 ford Galaxie that was in pieces last year. Was told all parts were there. I did a inventory and it appeared that everything was indeed there. My mistake! A lot of parts were missing, master brake cyl., side door moldings both left and right. and as I'm finishing it up discovered the headlight doors are also missing. I have done other vehicles and have had a similar experience. you would think I'd learn. I find it's almost impossible to inventory A car that's not together. Tried contacting person I purchased it form and he's moved. All this adds to cost and time. Just venting and hope others are more careful.

It's even tough when the car looks complete, is running and driveable.

I bought a '55 T-Bird that was supposed to have it's original engine... haha.
We all learn from from our mistakes, eventually.

I think one of the better things we can do is belong to a local club for similar vehicles and take someone with you to help look at a vehicle before you buy it.
Two heads are better than one. Another set of eyes less blinded by expectations will spot things you miss.

Been there, done that. Look at a pile of junk and see yourself cruising down the road getting thumbs up from both sides. A six month "easy" repair turns into years of work and a box car full of money. Keep smiling, it will get better.

It becomes a long row to hoe, my 56 merc I could have fished faster, but decided to do it the right way, I hope it will be done by next spring
