Carburator paint ?

Well, this seems to have turned into quite the fiasco. I received a box from the Holley shop today and knew something was wrong before I opened the box. Therein laid a complete restored carb for a mid to late '70's Ford Thunderbird or Mercury Cougar 302V8 engine.
So I called them and talked to a man named James Vester and asked him to find my Ford EBU carburetor. I sent him another photo of the carb (same one I originally sent them) along with their FDW number (work order #).
He is supposed to send something that I can use to ship this carb back to them pre-paid by Holley.
I am disappointed with this so far, as I originally sent it off to them on January 2nd and now it is one whole month later. I hope they find my carb!

That's terrible Dave ! That sounds very unprofessional on their part. I sure hope they find your carb. If worse comes to worse, in my mind they need to find a '55 ECG5 carb online and restore it for you with no charge at all, delivered to your door, and quickly !

What are the odds somebody else received your carb? I doubt it's sitting there where they can find it, they swapped mailing labels around and mailed it off is what happened I bet.

They asked me to look for a four-digit FDW number written on the box I received from them and take a photo of the carb that they sent in the box and send the number and the photo to them. They are going to send a pre-paid address label to stick on this box so that it can be forwarded on to it's owner. I did a little investigation and discovered this carb is a Holley 3660. There's one for sale on e-pay for $1,700 right now. Whew!
James at the Holley shop told me that they did find my carburetor and it is on it's way to me right now, so I should see it tomorrow or Wednesday.

That 3660 is the center carb for a mid 60s tri-power Corvette.

Hang onto that sucker till you get yours .

No way. I took the carb to the UPS drop off place as soon as I received the shipping label from Holley. I don't want no $1700 carburetor sitting around here.

I just received my actual carb from Holley. Apparently, they use the same size box no matter what kind of carb is shipped. It is the same size box as the one the 3660 came in. Those are big boxes stuffed full of foam mostly.

Here's photos of the re-plated carb pieces

I think it looks good. Some places use a different process where the carb is too bright and gold. Not the way they used to do it at all. Yours looks natural like the original plating 63 years ago.

How does this compare with sending out carbs?

I used to have an electroplating kit here about 20 years ago and used it to zinc plate cleaned original fasteners of all types that go to my '55 Courier. It included a clear sealer and some kind of black phosphate coating if you wanted that as an alternative. It was a cheap outfit that used batteries and the parts were electroplated in an acid dip. Then they had to be neutralized, polished and dipped in the sealer. Its a lot of work, particularly the initial cleaning.
It's not worth it to buy a kit IMO, unless you are planning to go into the electroplating business using your investment every day and have proper facilities for storing acid and other chemicals properly.
