Ok this discussion is just what I wonted to see. I have become reaquanted with the flathead ford.I remember them as a pre teen. I have shaken hands with 6 or 7 of them in the last 2 years. Only 4 of them will talk back yet. I have a 52 truck that runs good stock this one(just motor and ******) I would like to use the Mercury intake and eather a 2bbl 283 carb or a 289 ford 2bbl. Maby the Mercury cam. Stright pipes with headers. Change to a chevy distributor.(because of carb change) for proper advancment.ok what carb and cam??

2GC carb,EAB cam work fine. Yes converted SBC dist. Might just as well add a set of EAB heads too.

HI OL' Ron yes the Mercury heads are a lower compression than the EAB heads because of the Mercury 4" crank. I have the EAB and mercury heads. how about EAB heads on a mercury block. I wonder how mutch that would raise the compression on a mercury block.

Ford and Mercury blocks are the same. EAB heads will reise the comp ratio a little less than .5 compared to the Merc heads.

Hello. Flatjack9 yes the ford and mercury block is the same. Just the crank stroke ,piston pin position, carb. Intake bolt pattern. And the mercury had a weard carb. On them. I have one carburator that came out of (it was told to me a 49 mercury)There is not a picture of it in books or on thee net.I can't. Remember the name on it. Had mercury heads on it. I pulled it down and it had 4" crank. That block was cracked all the way down both pan rails. All it was worth was for parts.

The EAB heads on a Merc engine will raise the CR about 3/4 of a point. Some Merc and 8RT heads have over 100cc volumn.

<ello Ol Ron. With this new gasoline we have to run now that the government controles the. Vapor push, octane, end point, sulphur content. Is a little better than squirrel piss. With a real romper stomper. High compression engine what do the fellows use for gas now. The unit I run makes 93 octane. Before the specs are run down for the government.

So far the engines I've built have been satisfied with 87. 37Dons engine has 8.7CR, but who knows about next year.

Ol Ron I have a running 53 Mercury block. I am saving it for a hot rod build .won't it to sound and look super good. Money not a issue. What cam heads and carbs. And other work would you do. This engine will be hanging out ther behind the radiator and in front of the firewall. For everyone to see. Maby In a model a high boy with a T 5 transmission I have the adapter plates to use the stock bellhousing. Give me a good WHAT YOU would do Thanks Lyle

I checked the 8CM Merc heads at about 83-84cc and the EAB heads at 63-64cc. Has anyone cheacked the aftermarket aluminum heads? Which ones are close to the EAB heads?

I just checked a set of Edelbrock Block letter heads for a 59AB and they were 66 cc's. I think someone milled your EAB heads. The ones I have checked are around 70 cc's.

Jack 34 PU. Thanks for the imformation. I don't have aluminum heads to CC.I do have.2 sets of 8CM and 3 sets of EAB heads. I have 5 flatheads with 4 of them running.2 of them are in cars. The 53 Mercury will get a total rebuild with all the hot rod stuff.and the bling bling.to make it look (as we say inEast Texas) real PURDY.
