Bumper Bracket Measurement Spare Wheel bumper guard?

What is the distance supposed to be between the two unused holes in the bumper bracket just behind the chrome bumperette?

I recently saw a nice 31 Victoria that had a stainless spare wheel bumper guard installed between the bumperettes. I personally liked the look of it and bought one from Snyders.

I've only held up the stainless bar, but it appears to not fit between the two bumperettes or the bumper brackets at all. Seems too long.

I'm putting this on a 1931 Slant Cabriolet. Anyone else use one, or have fitment problems?

Thanks for the pic Tom. What is the distance between the holes on your bumperettes? Anyone have this answer?

Did the previous owner install the bumperettes wrong? Shouldn't the brackets be turned outward, rather than inward toward the middle of the car? My coupe was opposite of this settup.

30-1/4" on my project Victoria; not sure if they are straight. But the brackets are turned 90 degrees to those in your photo.

Vern has it correct. The inner bumperette brackets are installed 180 degrees off.

Turn the brackets over and the spare tire guard will fit just fine. These accessory spare tire guards have been used for years, both originals and reproductions. They fit, you just have to know what you are doing and get the car assembled correctly.

here are a few photos of an original spare tire protector
and the way its fastened
i didnt have time to get the correct bolts, but you can get an idea of how it goes together
