Barrett-Jackson

that sort of diminishes my standard reply to most Barret-Jackson questions or comments I get from "civilians".

I tell them (kindly) to divide the Barret Jackson price by 10 to get in touch with the real world....

that was the response I gave to a couple of good-old-boys at a south GA gas station recently who speculated our Town Sedan must be worth about $200,000. :p

I was on a club tour to Parliament Hill in Ottawa last year and while unpacking our 31' Dlx Roadster, I heard a voice say, "How much for your car?" Without turning around I replied, "How much are you offering?" The voice says, "Fifty Thousand!"

This of course made me turn around to see a very well-dressed man. Not thinking he was serious, I said, "I have a lot invested in the car and I'm really kind of attached to it. So thanks, but no thanks."
With that he hands me his card and says, "If you ever change your mind....." and walks away. I look at his card at it says the Honorable ------ Senator.

I later find out from some politician friends that he is indeed legit, wealthy and serious.

I relay this story to some club members and one says, "That sounds like the meeting of two fools. Him for offering that kind of money, and you for not taking it."

Barrett Jackson is not the real world of Model A nor other vehicle values. It is usually 50-60 year old men with their trophy babes on their arms and waaaaaay too much money .....so their honey whispers in their ear...I want that one....and so they bid crazy.

A lot of the B J cars dont even run. The Hummer that went through a year or so ago actually caught fire in the building....this is the Hummer that was rebuilt on the TV show some time before that.

not too much money; just not the right ideas about what to do with it.

the Cooks, who restored the French Lick Resort, West Baden Spa, Cedar Farms and Beck's Mill among other things; have much better ideas. They are having fun with their wealth and getting well-deserved recognition but doing something that benefits the public at the same time and saving remarkable buildings for the future.

It seems that the auction buyers get roundly criticized for paying high prices by the hobbiests but I gurantee that all the hobbiests want to find these buyers when it comes time to sell their cars.

I was there and saw the roadster and it was nice. It sold for $28,500. Including 10% commission the buyer paid $31,350 and minus 8% commission the seller gets $26,020. So would you sell it for 26K or buy it for 31K? So I don't think the selling price means too much to either party except for us onlookers to marvel over what a good or bad deal it was. And there were some good deal and some really bad deals. I think I learned this weekend that a lot of the auction buyers don't necessarily know what they are looking at.
