Apple Green Paint for Wheels

Has anyone tried the Apple Green Paint from TCP Global Paint? This color is in their color library. I find this color difficult to match up. There seems to be so many variations and I'm afraid to purchase a gallon and find it not to my liking. Has anyone tried to mix TCP Paints to get the Apple Green color? Ford Barn helped me a couple of years ago with some striping paint from One Shot using Subline @152L, Blue #152L and white #103L. What has been your experience with the Apple Green color? Ed

I just came from the automotive paint shop. They mixed me up a quart of the color I needed. Do you need a gallon, and shipping to paint your wheels?

I have never painted automotive finishes before - THIS IS GONNA BE INTERESTING! LOL LOL LOL

Hello, I noticed that variation also on Apple Green, this is what my gas tank striping turnedout like mixed one shot, two shades of green, maybe a little bright.Wheels were green when I bought car .

Is the apple green green from TCP Global a generic color that they’re offering that’s called apple green or is it intended to be an actual match to the Ford color? I haven’t used TCP but I can give advice on color matching. I would recommend going to your local paint supplier with a color chip or sample of something that has the color you want. They should be able to find a formula in their paint line that will match it either by using a color match camera or matching it to their chips. Some paint lines are easier than others. I use Glasurit in my shop which is a BASF product. BASF uses a chip deck for all of their different paint lines that has thousands of chips that you can flip through and look up a formula for each. When I need to make a custom color, I just ran through the decks and find something that either matches or is close enough to tint to match. The other plus with going to a local supplier is that they can mix smaller amounts if that’s all you need. And if you run out, they can always mix more of the same formula.

Most folks “published” paint formula for Ford Apple green ain’t anywhere close. UGLY imho
Haven’t looked at my authentic colors in awhile but I’d refer there and a local auto paint store.

Thank you for your comments. Gene F please get yourself a full face mask and the filters before your spray. Automotive paints are very toxic and could create a life long respiratory problem. The 3 M Paint Filters are so good that you cannot even smell the paint you are working with. Do a lot of reading to learn about how to get a good paint job. To get a reasonably looking and long service life paint job, I would do the following:
1. sand blast the rims.
2. Use epoxy primers
3. Lightly sand (320 paper) the primer to make smoother. Wipe down clean.
4. Use the new Acrylic Urethane Paint System with Hardener and mix correctly.
5. Use Mid Temp Reducers (paint thinner) and spray a test area (inside the rim) to be sure that the paint flattens out and is nice and shiny. Add more paint thinner if there is any sign of orange peel or roughness.
6. I like to use TCP Global Paints. Good quality, big selection and good pricing (if you could call it that).

There is way too much material to study to reference here. I have hit the big points that have hurt me in the past. Good luck, Ed

If you like this Apple Green color, I can supply the formula in PPG's Concept Series paints. Very durable, but not cheap.

The easiest way to deal with wheels. Add $20-30 to each for sandblasting and cooking by the powder coater where you take them. Be expected to pay a fee for him to clean is equipment for the color change.

I’ve sent two inquiries to these folks in the last couple of months - one via the “contact us” form on their website, and one email direct to modelawheel@comcast.net. No response from either one. As of April 2022 they were alive (I asked and received a product data sheet) but didn’t follow up at the time with an order. Has anyone had recent contact with them to confirm they are still in business?
