Anyone used oil pump shield?

Has anyone installed the Oil Pump Shield (A-6631) that is sold by Synder's and MAC? It was introduced in 1931 along with a lowered oil tray. The service bulletin for July-August 1931 says that the shield and oil tray must be installed together, not one with the other. Is this shield different that the original allowing it to work with the standard oil tray that was used previous to the change?

In the Spring 2009 Model A Times we reviewed this product. I know of one engine builder that installs them in all engines. The purpose was to keep the oil from moving away from the pump when making turns. It didn't seem to matter what pan you installed it with. Just for information we currently have this in a 1928 block with early pan and it went in just fine.

Thanks John for reminding me of the review. The main thing I wanted from this post was to get feedback to confirm that a tray change was not necessary. Thanks for the information.
