I'm putting together an A-V8 and want to keep the wishbone with a '32 k member. I keep hearing conflicting combinations of front axle & wishbone. I believe that the wishbone from certain years are longer and have more clearance for the oil pan. I also heard that different front axles have wider perch pin centerlines and since i want to have the dropped i need the narrowest centerline so i have a graceful curve. So what should i be looking for. Thanks, oj

Have the book and been a hambr for long enough to know that i'd get 6 different answers, a dozen arguments and somebody telling me that my float is too high.
As good as the book is there are some vague areas. Thanks LeRoy, that is a good suggestion and a great book.

28-36 front axles all have about the same width between the perch holes.... 37-48 is wider.

32-34 wishbones are all within range of what will work with the K-member with some slight modification possibly needed due to wheelbase and K-member location. these also are wider at the rear which will help with clearances.

35-48 wishbones went to a more V shape at the end creating less oil pan clearance

28-31 wishbones are also wider at the back but alot shorter and have less caster built into the axle end of them. These can be modified to work though also if absolutely necissary.

Thanks Zach, i probably should have given you a call. What about the height, the 32-34 bones same height as model a? Isn't it the 35 & up the height of the axle is different?

34 and earlier are narrower in the perch bolt area than later. There's a guy on the Hamb at the moment with pics on lengthening bones. Also do a search on the Hamb for Gashog. Bring up all his threads and look for the ones that document his AV8 build. Lots of pics and good descriptions. A must for anyone into AV8s.

I used a 32 wishbone and dropped axle, made my own crossmember for the wishbone ball. Open driveline with a V8 Halibrand. No oil pan problems. The wishbone is in the way of running dual exhausts, but you can use "lakes style" headers over the frame and tap into the collectors for the rest of the duals under the car.
Hot Rod magazine ran an article in the early fifties (51?) about building an A-V8 that was very informative and certainly "old school".

you need to fit spacers under the axle if your using a 32 axle with A wishbones as the boss is smaller on a 32 axle compared to an A i know that for sure as its what ive gotta do
