85,000 in 1 month. not Model A

I have a BLACK, 2004 Dodge Kadota, Std cab, short box, great truck, with only 27,000 miles on it. I bought it as a NEW leftover year model for $18,027.00! Recently a friend came with $15,000.00, in CASH, in a brown paper bag, from the sale of his Model A. He offered the bag for my Pickup! That was a HARD thing to turn down!
Perla, my home help gal just inherited a 1999 Ford Pickup, with only 81 MILES ON IT! Mark changed the coolant, oil & filter, new battery & fresh fuel & it's driving BEAUTIFULLY! ---Until last week, when it TOTALLY EXPLODED THE R/F TIRE, pieces went EVERYWHERE!

assuming it was properly applied, getting paint to stick to al is old tested tech. If you want to see paint that stays put on al even after being exposed to incredible amounts of solar radiation and 500-600mph winds, just visit any airport!

the problem will come if you get in an accident. Good luck finding a body shop that will know how to repair an al panel.

bingo, I just read this thread for the first time and was going to post exactly that......

As far as paint sticking,,,, not an issue. Our '98 F-150 with and ALUMINUM hood and composite quarter panels (it's a step side) has NEVER been an issue. I see more paint coming off GM vehicles than any other brand out there.

AND, GM and Toyota have already said they are going to copy Ford in two years and go to their own aluminum trucks.

Ford must be doing something right:p:p:p

Yep their top of the line right down to the super duty c channel frame compared to gm's fully boxed...
Not to mention all the different diesel platforms over the years ......

It will only be a matter of time like it or not GM will follow Ford's lead on using Aluminum. Like Boeing with carbon fiber 787, Airbus is following Boeing's lead...

Topping the sales charts in 2015 was Ford’s F-Series with 780,354 sold. That made it America’s best-selling pickup for 39 consecutive years and the best-selling vehicle for 34 straight years. The Ford brand remained the best-selling brand in the United States for a sixth-straight year, with more than 2.5 million cars and trucks sold.

Toyota Motor Corp.’s midsize Camry sedan was the best-selling car for a 14th consecutive year, with sales at 429,355, level with 2014.

Just my opinion, but aren't trucks supposed to be used for work? should what they can do for hauling and loading negate what the paint does in 3-5 years? Maybe Ford has decided to corner the market in aluminum body work. What's next, worrying that the heated steering wheel and seats aren't that toasty.

What is "SPECIAL" about MILITARY GRADE ALUJIMUM?
Bill W.

Is "military grade" aluminum any more-special than the oft-referenced "aircraft grade" aluminum? I strongly believe that any reference to EITHER grade is something that Jonathan Gruber could have been instrumental in packaging for the general Kewl-Ade consuming buyer. DD

Early Volvo bumpers were some kind of Aluminum Alloy that were ALMOST indestructible ! It was almost impossible to drill a 1/2" hole in the top, to mount fog lights! I never knew what kind of alloy it was???

Omni and Horizon bumpers were aluminum, and after a few years of road salt the attachment points to the steel arms were so corroded that the bumpers practically fell off on their own.

I know, I know, This is an old thread but I have a thing about how companies or Governments censor unflattering publicity. I posted a link in post #14 but it has been taken out, probably at the "request" of Chrysler. I'd forgotten about it till this article appeared in the press yesterday https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-10-27/sc-jeep-man/103024156
If you follow the link in that article, you will see part of what I originally posted. I wonder how long it will be before this one too is taken down even though it is factual.

Mine is a 2016 Ford F-150 with the aluminum body. 3.5 ecoboost. The paint is terrible. Thick in places and thin on others. Very susceptible to stone chips and bruises. Yea, it's a truck..but I treat it like a car and keep it looking good as my Model A. And something to expect with this equipped model. At 83,000 miles the 2 cooling lines to the turbo has started to leak coolant. I understand it is common due to heat. New upgraded rubber seals had to be replaced at $1900.00. Mostly labor at a terrible place to work at.

Many years ago I worked on a video series for Ford called "The Truth About Trucks". We took a new Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota and Nissan apart and compared the design and build differences. There are a whole bunch of links at this dealers YouTube site - I couldn't find the complete video that was a Ford DVD dealer giveaway - in the end they produced nearly 4 million copies. I should have taken a per DVD deal rather than a daily lump sum......
