55 brake proiblem

Ok Gene f and Kolutz Removed cylender and find that the push rod goes into the new cylender about 3/8 0f an inch further than in the pump removed so yes should have got old one rebuilt but since the new one works fine i am going to use an adjustable push rod or possibly turn mine ito a adjustable with a die nut and some work it could be done...Sorry guys Live and learn...

You are fine, but it is important for you to realize this is not a service repair but a modification.

If you use the take-out push-rod (if original and/or correct), the plastic tip (CASCO #2142) must also be used. If an aftermarket adjustable push-rod is used, it should have a smooth rounded end so as not to damage the MC PISTON.

You were able to catch and understand the problem before final install.

EDIT -

Maybe this will help understand the MC PISTON SIZING difference(s) -

MASTER CYLINDER FACTOIDS

Decreasing MC bore size will decrease your pedal effort and increase your pedal travel. Conversely, a larger bore in your car's master cylinder will, all other components being consistent, increase your pedal effort and decrease your pedal travel. As with some other brake parts purchases, this comes down to your preference for how the brakes "feel" under foot when you are driving – MPB

Sorry for hijacking this but....
I've replaced mc on a customer s 55 victoria. Also new brake switch. Lights stay on. Could it be pushrod length?

Is your new brake switch a reproduction OEM switch or manual? Replacing the OEM switch with an adjustable manual switch is recommended.

Yes, if the push-rod is not adjusted correctly (clearance to piston), it will keep residual pressure on the system. That and dragging brakes.

This is four wheel drum single reservoir MC?

A simple test would be to loosen the MC and slide it forward slightly to see if the lamp goes out.
