54 Mercury ignition switch

Helping someone out with his 54 Merc. Beautiful car, but the key will only turn if you giggle it up-down. He has a replacement tumbler, but not sure if it is correct.
It looks like the hardest part is getting it out from under the dash.
Anyone done this? Any shortcuts?
Thanks,
Ralph

With the key removed, you will see two slots in the outer chrome bezel at 90 degrees from the key slot. There is a special tool to do this but if you don't have it you can put the two points of a needle nose plyers in those slots and turn the bezel either counter-clockwise or clockwise (I can't remember which) and this will release the bezel and the switch assembly. To install a new lock cylinder you will need to get the bad key to turn at least a quarter turn to the right. Then push down on that tiny button on top of the switch housing and pull the old cylinder straight out.

OK, we have the switch figured out but need to find a Quality Tumblr and key.
I used to see someone on the Ford Barn that specialized in older car locks and keys.
But I cannot remember who it was.

Concours Parts, Dennis Carpenter Ford Parts and C&G Ford Parts all sell a replacement ignition lock cylinder with key Part # B2A-11582. Concours Price is only $12.50 per their latest catalog.
