51 Merc Rims on a 34 ?

Can I use... 51 Merc Pickup ...rims on a 34 Ford sedan, as I want to go to 16 inch, do I need an adapter ring ?, will it make the car harder to steer ? thanks Barners ..

You can't put later wheels on the earlier drums. Ford made it as hard as possible to do this. The studs are really not long enough as the the stand off's on the drums/hubs hold the wheel out. The stand offs will make the wheel wobble as it is not supported. The stand off's can be machined away but even that will not work.The contact area on the later wheels does not hit the hubs squarely and are not propperly supported. Change to 40-48 drums/hubs and juice brakes and then you can run the later wheels.

Thanks andy.. That info. is exactly what I was looking for, I guess at a later date I will go for the 40 to 48 stuff , with juice brakes... Tks ..
