'48 Ampmeter hookup

I'm trying to connect the ampmeter on my '48 F1 and it wasn't connected to anything when I started. All that's on the back is a couple of loops about the size to fit around a cigarette. The schematic I have doesn't give any detail and the only thing I've come up with is passing the wire through the loops and hopeing it acts as an amprobe. Could this be?

you got it....and if it reads backwards, you reverse the path the wire takes thru the loops....Mike

Be very careful not to hook the power to the wrong side. It will burn up your wiring harness. I found that out the hard way. It was a bad day.
