41 Merc history

I have come into possession of a '41 Mercury coupe. It was owned by a William Dunn in Marion Ohio. I assume it was restored While in his possession, reportedly in the late 80's or early 90's but maybe he purchased it in a restored state. In any case I am trying to learn more about the history of this maroon beauty.

All I know of the car is when Mr. Dunn passed, his widow gave it to his lifelong friend, Rex Shaffer. The car apparently resided in storage for an extended period of time. It was at Rex's auction that my wife was the lucky bidder. And here is the interesting part: A '41 Merc coupe was my first car! Not this one however,
as my original was gray.

I almost bought one just like it, but it had a two tone paint job and jump seats in the back. It was for sale in another state and the paperwork was iffy so I passed. Please post some pictures when you get a chance.

Someone on here may recognize it from pics. If it was restored, wouldn’t it be funny if the gray one you owned was now painted maroon!…….Mark

Very nice cars. There’s a few differences from early to late. Different park lights on front fenders is one. Dicast fender trim are a couple I’m aware of.
Enjoy. I too have one.

I will post pics after I finish the brake job and get it out of the shop. maybe in a week or two. And this car is not my original, as my original had identifying marks known only to me. One of the first things I checked!

Our son has my former '40 Merc 4door convertible. I love everything about the style, performance and ride. Best wishes!!

Mercury offered two Coupes in 1941.
A regular Coupe as well as a Sedan Coupe.
This illustration is from the original Sales Brochure.

OK, finally got the 41 Mercury out of the shop, so here is a pic or two. Did not get it cleaned up yet, way too cold to wash a car.

Tom: thanks for the pictures, the one I looked at 6 years ago was maroon with black fenders and jump seats in the back, but title was iffy so I passed.
