39 engine breaking up under load

Have a 39 ford with a 21 a flatty in it. Idles good, revs up good but breaks up under load. Also likes the choke all the way closed, when opening choke, it still idles but dies when you hit the gas. Carb issue? Timing? What do you think. Single holley 94, stock motor.

Put in a new coil........I had the same issues. The coil was my problem.

Should I put an original coil in it or update it to a modern style coil?

Replacing what's in your car would probably be easiest, no other mounting or modification would have to be done.

The coil is 100, kit to put on a 20 dollar coil is 45.00. We'll see, I do have another engine that I can take the coil from to see if it changes.

Why not try the other Coil that you have goodluk

I would look for dirt in the carb sound like a carb issue to me.

You might want to check the point gap before spending any $$$.
Too wide a gap can cause what you describe.
