35 Ford transmission

When I'm looking at the synchronizer it looks like the groove for the shifter fork is centered between the two side. One side has a raised shoulder around 1/16" high. When you place the synchronizer on the main shaft does the small shoulder face the front of the transmission or rear of the transmission?

This is correct…..the small lip should be positioned to the front side. There was an old Ford exploded parts drawing that showed it fitted to the rear but that was clearly incorrect. I corrected the drawing for our website. Having rebuilt literally hundreds of the early transmissions, I know for a fact that the lip always went to the front.

Also, note that the 32-34 synchro sleeves had a slightly bigger lip than the 35-38 sleeves. This was done to accommodate the change in the 35-38 cluster gears. There is a Ford service bulletin back in the day that explained the differences. This is available to read on our website.
