34 motor correct compression?

I have a "rebuilt" 34 motor that is freshly put in a car. Its compression is at 64 to 70 per cylinder. The car idles all day, but will not run at other speeds. All external items have been replaced with other working items. Any ideas what the issue is? Thanks Barners

Compression seems a litle low, possibly the cam timing is out a tooth or something? Brian

If the cam is off one tooth the motor will vibrate at certain speeds. There are a lot of old Fords running good with 65 to 70 lbs compression. Was the distributor set up on a machine by someone that does a lot of them, the wires good and in the correct sockets in the caps. I have seen several rotors with internal shorts shorting to the shaft. Fuel flow or float level even dirt in the gas tank will have this effect. There are to many things and each has to be checked. G.M.

Should be adequate, though not very good. Something else is wrong for it not to run above idle, and of course whatever that is could also be dropping your compression.
Ford spec for both '34 heads is 113 at cranking speed, plus or minus 10, permissible variation 10.
Once engine is sorted out and runs right, check compression again after rings have a few miles on them.
