Hi folks. I,m helping my friend finish his A. What side does the reg. arm button fit into the metal window channel on the bottom of the dr. glass? Does it enter from the smooth side or from the back where the horizontal. U channel is? All he has are new metal channels # A-45963-A. I never saw how the original was installed. Our standard coupe has the U channel facing into the inside of the car. I don't,t know if this applies to all bodies. If anyone has replaced a 4 dr.ft. window reg. assy (4 bolt) with a with a Tudor reg. assy. Please respond with any modifications that are needed. thanks.

Does he have the OEM regulators and they need repair or does he just have the stamped metal regulator frames that support the windows? It's common to have right and left but the fronts & rears might be similar unless they mount in vastly different spots on the door frame. Some fit right front and left rear so it pays to do some research on the body he has. Most model A mechanisms were similar but there were differences depending on the body model. Most cars have the arms very close to the regulator for clearance and to allow the window to go all the way down, the "button" as you call it fits into the slider directly to aid in both functional movement and removal.

A problem with Tudor regulators may be that the arms are longer due to wider window glass but I don't know for certain. They are mounted in the big circle on the metal door inner frame. Wood body cars are generally always different although Briggs and Murray may have used the same units.

We have 1 old reg. for the Drs. right . It's arm is 12" c to c between the spring loaded button & the center of the spring. The new Tudor replacement is 10". The reg operates smoothly as does the glass while pushing it manually in the new felt channels. The problem is when the assy is all together - it,s binding! I wonder if the button is on the wrong side of the lower metal channel. Could someone please measure the arm on a ft door of a 4 dr.My next move is to try the 12" reg. arm to see if that eliminates the binding.Unfortunately the new Tudor reg. assy came with no instructions. The new metal channels are marked L. or R.but they don't,t tell you what side (smooth) or (U channel) faces the inside of the car.

The channel is where the lifting arm slider knob or button fits in the Ford built bodies but the Fordors are different. Their channel is a slot with a hole large enough on one end for the riser arm button or knob to fit through. Check on Snyder's Antique Auto web site for the window lower channels for Murray Fordors. They also have four hole regulators but I'd call them about those. A person needs to know if there is a right front/left rear (if that is how they fit) and an opposite part. I tend to repair the old original stuff but finding parts you don't have may take longer than you want to wait.

I looked at a picture I had and I believe the channel (the inside of the U) faces inwards.

Guys, thank you. I agree with how the arm fits into the metal lower window channel. We have the 4 hole regulators. I suspect they can be reversed for either side as each unit has 2 spring tail locking tabs. The center spring can also be reversed depending which side they need to go on.Next week I,ll experiment with all our options. I,ll let you know the results.
