Rear crankshaft oil seal; leak on 55 272 Can i replace it with a new neoprene type without engine removal..Do not want to put the old rope seal in unless forced to..Thanls in advance..PS if i can where is a god place for installation instructions..

You can replace the seal with the engine in the car. You'll need to unbolt the crank at the rear main and the bearing immediately in front of it, and loosen the others to allow the crank to drop down far enough to allow access to the rear main. When removing the oil pan you'll need to disconnect the drag link and swing it out of the way, and rotate the crank so that the throws are up out of the way enough to remove the pan. Check the Eaton Balancing website for tips and tricks for installation of the seal.
