I have been looking at a 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruser , it has push button transmission control. what kind of problems could I encounter with push button drive. Do they work good, can I expect a lot of troubles?
Ditto on the Edsel push button problems. Those problems originated at the electric servos within the ****** itself that would get out of alignment when going directly from reverse to drive or drive to reverse without first going to neutral. It was simply too big a hit for the servos to compensate for when not using neutral to ease the shock of going from one direction to another. If the Mercury transmission uses a similar electric solenoid within the transmission, then I'll suggest also using neutral during direction changes when shifting using the buttons. Never heard of problems with the Mercs though so they are likely a different operating system.
