Will a 1955-56 Ford car side shift transmission be a direct bolt in
to replace the stock 1954 Ford F100 light duty 3-speed column transmission?

Forgot to ask:

Will the 1955-56 Ford car transmission with overdrive also be a direct bolt in?

The basic trans are much alike, you might swap internals and use the truck output setup. What's wrong with the truck box?

Doesn't the truck transmission have mounting tabs at the bottom of the bellhousing that the car transmission does not have, or is that only true for the Ford-O-Matic truck trans ???

The light duty column shift transmission in my brothers 1954 Ford pick up exploded without warning , destroying the cluster gears, the input shaft, 1st and 2nd gear, synchronizers, etc. I am trying to find him another transmission or the parts to rebuild his as he doesn't have a computer. Any help or leads are appreciated.
Thanks.

As mentioned the truck has the short tailshaft but I think you will also find the truck input shaft is larger and longer than the car version same goes for the overdrive variety as they used completely different bellhousings.
