Mark,
Photo from the last cruise in at Conneaut Ohio this past Thursday. 1949 club coupe and a 50 tudor. The fellow with the 49 is 90 years old and the 50 owner will be 90 in two weeks. Both served in the military right after the Korean war. Gives you some hope that we have a bit of runway left...

John,…….Congrats to those two owners!!……I hope to be around long enough to wear out a few more sets of tires……..Mark

A little bit off topic but my 91-year-old father bought this John Deere 420 W last Saturday at an auction. He has the other two models of 420's and wanted to complete the set. Clearly, he has not got the memo he is not a puppy and should not be buying more things. Cathy seems to think I have that trait also but what I buy has Ford written on it.

I don’t think age is a factor when you’re buying something that’s Green and has Yellow wheels!!……..Mark

Mark, the green paint always seemed to bring more money around here. That one ran good and had fairly new tires (needed fronts). Brought $1,700. Ten years ago, it would've been probably double that. I think those guys are aging out too. One unusual one he has is a O-6 McCormick Deering (Farmall) orchard tractor. When the original owner bought it they pulled the orchard sheet metal off and stored it in the rafters of the barn. Hoping Dad gets to that before he hits the exit ramp. He says this winter.

Hi John,

Congrats to your dad on his purchase and his enthusiasm at 91. I went to Winthrop Harbor, Ill. to my mom's youngest brother's 100th birthday party in Feb of '25. He was still driving, and still actively restoring a '57 pickup which is beautiful. I turned 80 this year but recently lost the love of my life, Mary, with whom I shared my life for over 58 years. Its been a sad summer, but I'm getting better. How's your friend Chris doing after losing Cheryl recently? I haven't heard much out of him lately.

Al Hook

Al,
I apologize for butting in here….condolences on the loss of your wife..after 58yrs, I can’t imagine the empty feeling that must be…and I too have wondered how Chris is doing……Mark

John, I had not heard about either of these losses. I have made a lot friends here on the Barn, and the sadness is the same as when one of my island friends passes. I will say that we hear and see a bit more of the background behind the fords with the way that John and you post, and I have very much enjoyed getting a glimpse into the daily life of two hard working families in rural upstate NY. I offer my most sincere condolences to Al and Chris this morning.

AL, Gary, and Mark, just talked to Chris and he is doing o.k. under the circumstances. Al, I am so sorry to hear about your beloved Mary. Cathy and I have been married 45 years, and we've discussed the sad thing is one of us will have to leave first. Had a friend that passed on their 50th anniversary. 4th heart attack got him. His wife had said he would've never been happy if he couldn't do what he wanted to. Esther said, "Men are like dogs, they aren't meant to be in the house". Wisdom.
