Today American Lock and Key fixed my broken key issue, total cost: $13. They were able to turn the cylinder to the lock position, extract the broken key, make a new one (with the Hurd blank I supplied) and back on the road. I was very happy with the service, glad I was able to avoid removing the whole column drop, etc.

Digger, did you happen to see what he/they used to get that broken off piece of key out of the lock cylinder? Are you the same guy we were advising to use a small coping saw blade to get that piece out? Just wondering. I'm glad to hear you did not have to take that column drop apart.

Yes I am the same person asking about this a few weeks ago. The lock/key technician used a tool of their trade to get the key piece out. Not sure of the name, but it looked like a piece of piano wire, with brass colored bristle brush wire wound around it like DNA. It was screwed in whatever cravice was available clockwise, then tugged on. Took only 3 tries to get the key out far enough to grab with pliers.
