1930-31 Running Board Mats

My 1931 coupe was fitted with 1930 running boards by a previous owner. I wish to retain the 1931 appearance and would like to know if the 1931 board mats (with the ribbed edges) have the same dimensions and will fit on the 1930 boards?

Hello,, the 1930 has one piece splash aprons and running boards. I believe the metal board is the same size, but the rubber is different between the two . On the 30 there is zinc trim on four edges, the 31 has small holes through the metal for bonding the mat to metal, and only has zinc trim on outside edge the other 3 have rubber trim. There are special bolts, some times called Chinese hats to hold boards to brackets , you may need to save the original ones. I usually get parts from Snyders, if all else fails they should know about the size. Good luck.

Thanks, I am aware of the differences between the two years of Model A running boards. I was only looking to see if the dimensions of the mats were different and that the 31 mats would fit nicely on 30 boards, more in synch with the 1931 body.

The previous owner had installed 28-29 mats with homemade aluminum trim that looks like it was originally intended for use on vinyl or linoleum flooring, kind of what you may find in a 50's-60's amateur restoration. Fortunately, the braces and fasteners are original and in nice shape.

Original 1931 running boards had a molded rubber cover with molded bead on the front, inside, and back. Rootlieb makes these $$$.

"Economy" 1931 repro running boards use a glued on mat (like 1930) and use a "quarter round" glued on bead to suggest the molded bead of the original.
