David:

Looking at the picture of the engine with Henry & Edsel, I'm curious about the "wrap around" exhaust set up. I'm assuming the farthest rear exhaust port on the passenger side exhaust exits at the back of the block and is picked up by the second "wrapped around" exhaust manifold or were there only two exhaust ports on these early versions of these motors?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim when I visited the Speedway motors museum a few years ago they had one of those early flathead V-8 blocks in their engine room. Man i was intrigued by this design where the exhaust ports came out the front and rear surfaces on both sides of the block. The design would certainly help eliminate the super heating of the engine coolant had it been put into production. Another bonus the design would also add to the potential for future performance improvements with those ports exiting the block quickly. Only negative i could see was the starter location would be a bit of a problem for a future Hot Rod conversion.

Haha. I agree, Ronnie. Seems to make sense to exit the exhaust out the back.
