Radius Rod...use the rubber ball or not

Henry went to the rubber ball because of cost. Fewer parts, simpler design. Both work well but the rubber ball may need to be replaced every so often. Chris W.

    Building Burtz block

Having assembled 25 Burtz engines early on, I machined the "O" ring groves myself before Terry was offering bolts with the groves. I always machined the groves with radiused bottoms. The square groves are definitely a stress riser. Chris W.

    Rootleib

Is Rootleib still making hoods? I want to purchase a hood and they do not answer their phone of their emails. Does anyone know if they are still making hoods? Thanks, Chris W.

Will High Octane Gas Reduce Knock in a 5.5 or 6.1 Head?

I also have a a Model A with a 5.5 head and one with a 6.0 head. Have been running them for more than 15 years using 87 octane fuel with no problems. I also have a Bertz engine with one of Terry's early version of his 6.5 head that I have to run premium fuel. I think the later version of the...

Who Likes The Best 509G Head Gasket?

I would definitely check the flatness of the head and block. Use the 509G gasket if things are flat. Be sure to use Copper Coat on both sides of the gasket and install while the Copper Coat is wet. Be sure the surfaces are absolutely clean and free of any grease or oil. Use acetone of lacquer...

    Door Adjustments

If you have to slam the door to get it to latch, the usual cause is the sticker is out of adjustment or the latch itself is worn out. Chris W.

    aluminum timing gear recommendation

I agree, Dan makes the best gears. I have used lots of them. Chris W.

Connecting Rod stud w galled threads

I agree. Looks like a nice engine. Replace the rod. Get it balanced and you will have a good engine. Trying to do something with rethreading is not a good idea. My opinion after working on these engines for more than 70 years. Chris W.

    Synthetic Blend

That is fine for a late model F150 but the question was oil for a Model A Ford. Late model lubrication requirements are different than cars that were built almost 100 years ago. Chris W.

    Timing centrifugal advance

I have found a 6.0 Snyder head needs about 25 deg. @ 2000 - 2200. Try that, I think you will find that will work well. My experience, Chris W.

    radiator sealer

I would start with Bars Leak or Aluma Seal. I do not think you need anything as agressive as a block seal. My opinion, Chris W.

model A engine oil / lubrication

Nothing magic about Model A engine oil. I use the cheapest non synthetic 10-30 or 10-40 from O'Riley's, both in my Babbett engines and also my Burtz engine. I do put a little ZDDP additive in my Burtz, which probably isn't necessary, because I am running higher valve spring pressures. I run...

    Synthetic Blend

I am not a big fan of using full synthetic our synthetic blend in these old engines. It will lubricate the engine just fine but it has a greater propensity to leak. My opinion, Chris W.

31 roadster folding top irons- I think its a delux

I have used "Liquid Wood" epoxy material to fill defects and old tack holes in Model A wood with very good success. I just finished restoring the top on my Vickey which requires fixing a lot of old dry rotted tack holes and also the ends of the front header. Very pleased with the results and the...

    DIY Paint With Eastwood Company

For many years, I have used Eastwood products with very good success. I also paint my own Model A's. For the body, I like to use lacquer. For the last 2 Model A's I have painted, I have gotten the lacquer from TCP Global. They also have the thinners, primers and just about everything else you...

    Ryan Oil?

I would think 90-140 gear lube would be fine. I do not think I would want to run 600W. My opinion, Chris W.
