1950 Ford Custom Brake Master Cylinder

Replaced the MC on Saturday and the process was pretty painless. Having access to a full height car lift is the key IMO. Took about 3 hours total being very careful and deliberate but I spent another two hours greasing all the fittings I could find and looking at other stuff... ALWAYS...

1950 Ford Custom Brake Master Cylinder

THIS is why Ford Barn is awesome!! Figured it was hard to do needing to dissemble much of the same items as replacing the MC so THANKS. I plan to replace the MC and will get a rebuild kit for the old MC keeping it as a spare.

1950 Ford Custom Brake Master Cylinder

OK so apparently there are several options to rebuild a master cylinder just had to get the search words right (rebuild kit) vs seals or piston etc. Anyone have experience with any of the options from Dennis Carpenter Classoc Industries, Summit pr Speedway? TIA

1950 Ford Custom Brake Master Cylinder

OK SOOOOOOOO.... After watching a few videos on the brake master cylinder and then looking at how the piston and seals are inserted HOW can there NOT BE a rebuild kit with seals that can be changed without removing the cylinder? One C-clip ring a retaining washer holds the piston in...

1950 Ford Custom Brake Master Cylinder

Ok so probably NOT MY LAST QUESTION... With the planned replacement of the master cylinder, all flexible brake hoses and wheel cylinders what would be the brake fluid of choice? DOT3 seems to be the front runner based on what I have read so far...

1950 Ford Custom Brake Master Cylinder

Ok so found the leak! Pretty sure the fluid is leaking from the master cylinder which is no surprise really. The "oil" under the car was in fact part brake fluid probably coming from the push rod. I haven't removed all the mud shield to verify but it will be removed when the Master cylinder...

    1949-51 Instrument reflection

Just finished up replacing the headlight switch and cleaning up some wiring on my '50 and after driving the car all lights work BUT the speedo/instrument gauge lights reflect off the drivers windshield directly in the drivers line of sight. Has anyone made a "visor" or other type device to...

1950 Ford Custom Brake Master Cylinder

Well that's a good question... Best answer is: A full system fluid change will be done soon. Thoughts of changing over to a dual master cylinder is on the list too... just need to look at all the modifications needed for that before opening that can o worms...

1950 Ford Custom Brake Master Cylinder

Thanks for the link to a really good video on the operation. So the return bypass fluid would increase the pressure in the reservoir but the cap it is vented so it can't build up; makes sense. I will keep checking the fluid level and see what happens with the new seal on the cap...

1950 Ford Custom Brake Master Cylinder

Is the stock OEM 1950 master cylinder reservoir "pressurized" during brake application or pedal return? A little history on the issue and reason for the question. I had a soft pedal and checked the reservoir (once I got the cap off which I believe has been on the car 75 years too) which was...

    3 point seat belts

SOOO we were watching OPL the other night and the rear seats of the cop cars had three point seat belts where the shoulder strap is mounted in the center and the lap belt extends to the door side of the car. This set up allows the cops to buckle the belt without moving across the body of the...

    Great Race

If you go to see the Race go to one of the overnight stay cities because the cars are AMAZING and many of the drivers and teams are willing to share their cars and stories with their fans and public. I talked to so many of the racers and their team members who had some great stories of the...

    Shoebox seatbelt installs

Hey Joe I saw your post on moving the seat back (THANKS FOR THE PICS) I will be doing about the same this weekend so I can comfortable drive the car. I haven't removed the strap to see what holds it up but I'm thinking it would be better than the NOTHING I have installed right now. Do...

    Shoebox seatbelt installs

That's what I thought but it seems like they are in the right position with the adjuster on the drivers side. I did remove the seat and looked under the car for any non factory mount hols but they bolt right into the track frame bolt holes. VERY STRANGE!! I have seen several people with the same...

1950 Ford sedan seat too far forward

I know this post is a few years old but looks like it will do the trick!!! I had to reread a few time to get the pictures to line up with the text but finally made the connection with the angle only in the back not across the entire mount...

    Shoebox seatbelt installs

Still fighting the seat position issue and working on a bracket or rail solution. Strange the seat would be so far forward and then slide even further forward to a point the steering wheel is touching the seat!! Are there two mounting positions? Looking under the car it appears there is not...
