Spark plugs - 6 volt, 12 volt difference

I have searched the forum foe a possible answer but cannot seem to find one. I have a 37 Model 78 slantback that I converted from 6-volts to 12-volts. It has the stock 221cu in engine with a two-deuce manifold. I'm using the recommended Champion spark plug, UD16. My question is, since I...

    Distributor oil port

Good morning, I have a 37 sedan slantback with the original engine and trans. I noticed on the distributor a small oil port. Mr. Haney rebuilt the distributor several years and the car is running great. My question is how often, how much and what kind of oil should I be putting in that oli...

    Stuck intake manifold

I would like to thank everyone for their reply to my question. I did go back and double check the number of bolts I removed. Several of you said ten on a side and I only removed nine on a side. My brother-in-law found the two behind the radiator hoses which I missed. I removed those two and with...

    Stuck intake manifold

I cannot get my intake manifold to release. I've heated it up, beat it with a dead blow hammer and ran a 2 x 4 across the front fenders attaching a rachet strap to the generator bolt for additional pressure but it still stuck. yes, all the bolts are out. Any suggestions? As always, thank you...

    intake manifold

I'm planning on replacing the intake manifold on my 37 mod 78. Is it necessary to lower the level of the radiator fluid below the intake level? Zeke

    Intake manifold

Is there a certain sequence to tighten bolts when installing an intake manifold on a stock 37 V8? I believe the torque setting is between 23 - 25 lbs.

Edmunds Custom 2 x2 intake manifold

Recently purchased the intake for my stock 1937 221. I'm not sure the best carbs to use with this manifold. Any suggestions? In searching the forum, I see mention of 48, 94 and 97's. I have a big logo 97 and although the bolt holes match up, the base on the 97 is larger than the base on the...

Kube, Bored and Stroked, That's for passing on the info about the oil pan. It's much appreciated. Looks like I'll be dropping the pan sometime in the future. Zeke

    loss of oil pressure

Has this happened to anyone else? I was out driving my stock 37 v8 Slantback when I needed to make a sudden stop. I noticed the oil pressure gauge showed zero pressure at the end of the stop but returned to 40 to 45 lbs quickly. Otherwise the pressure is fine while driving and during normal...

    Hard brake pedal

Just wanted to update on the progress of the hard brake pedal problem. I took the advice of several on the forum and shortened the push rod for the master cylinder. Shortening the push rod did the trick. Thanks to all for your help and advice. John Z.

    Hard brake pedal

I've converted my 37 ford mechanical brakes to hydraulic drum brakes, not power assisted. I'm using a mustang master cylinder with 1/4" lines and have a 10 lb residual valve installed. The conversion kit is a Boling Brothers product whose recommendation was for the 1/4" line. Original wide five...

    Changeing water temp sensor question

Flathead, In my 37 when I changed to the electronic gauges, I drained the radiator otherwise you'll have antifreeze coming out once you remove the old sensor. I had just loosened the sensor and the antifreeze started leaking out. My upper hose runs to the center of the head with the temp sensor...

    New Gauges for 39 Deluxe

Flathead 39, Sorry for the late reply. I'm using the the Ford unit, 99006-04. In my case I unscrewed the unit and basically used the front half which screwed directly in my stock 37 trans. If I can figure out how to post a photo, I'll show you the part I removed. Zeke

    New Gauges for 39 Deluxe

Jim, One problem I did come across was the fuel gauge. Always read full. I was able to determine the fuel sending unit I had in the tank would only work with the original Ford gauge. When I first purchased the car several years ago I had to replace the fuel tank, the sending unit and an...
