    Ring & pinion question

Thanks Larry I like to drive my Car. I've driven A's & T's for years. I had a Tudor and sold it a few years back. Now I have the 31 S/W that I'm re doing. We have hills, long gradual hills, country roads, occasional highway driving. Not looking for speed. As with all A's your driving along, you...

    Ring & pinion question

Thanks Brent, Which cam & combo would not make me regret the 3.54. Is the Stipe cam a new one ? Does Snyder's or Bratton's carry the Stipe parts ?

    Ring & pinion question

Hey guys, we have been thru this, but just wanted to make sure before I lay out the mula for the parts. I am working on 31 160B s/w 4dr. I was going to go with the High compression head 6:1 or 5.5:1 not sure which. Would the 3.54 R&P be too low. I had a Tudor a while back and seemed when I...

    160B 1931 Slant Window - Mestoration Correction

I'd be interested to know how you make out. I have a 160B that I am currently working on with the same problem. I'm not sure if my sockets are still in the pillar. I was thinking along the same lines of using one of the external sockets, but haven't had the time to experiment. Does Bratton's...

    Overdrive / ring gear question

So I quess the conclusion is: The 3:54 for the lighter cars. Best combo would be 5.5 head + 3:78 RG with Ryan overdrive ? For best performance on the NE hills. Would the new 6.1 head too much ?

Rear bumper arm assembly for a 31 Vicky

Happy Thanksgiving All ! Great pics Doug. I wish mine looked like that. Mine are chopped off after the risers and (I don't think you could call it welding) a rear section welded on. Good luck with the car.

Rear bumper arm assembly for a 31 Vicky

Doug, I'll have to take a closer measurment of that bracket(riser). One was broken off the other was there but not sure if it was correct. I did measure from the bottom below the rivet and I believe that dim. was 5". Is there any site that might show an example of the complete SW bracket ?

Rear bumper arm assembly for a 31 Vicky

I have a question. I have a Slant Window Town sedan. I also need rear bumper brackets. I plan on having the side mount and no spare on the back. Would I be able to buy the 4DR sedan brackets and add the proper uprights ? What's left on mine measure 4 1/2 from top to center of rivets. I see them...

    Overdrive / ring gear question

I just found out that my Ryan Overdrive is a 23%. (new in box). It seems that I will go with the 3:78 RG based on the great feed back. I never had any experience with the 3:54 in a light or heavier 4dr. My concern was to keep the RPM's down on the everyday back/street roads, down hills, etc. and...

    Overdrive / ring gear question

Sounds like it might be a good Idea to stick with a 3:78 & the OD. I'm in the Northeast and we have some hills. When I would drive my 2 door the fan felt like it would be going thru the rad. going down hill. I was curious as to how the 3:54 would be for the all around drive for the average road...

    Overdrive / ring gear question

Bob, Thanks for the info. Motor isn't built yet. I am building it stock with high compression head, possible burlington crank. Not sure whether v8 style clutch or stock. I had a 31 Two door with stock clutch, seemed to be ok. How is the Ryan overdrive ? Do you think it's better or as good as a...

    Overdrive / ring gear question

I have a 1931 Slant Town sedan I'm working on. I have a Ryan Overdrive that I want to put on. I was also thinking of putting in a 3:54 RING & PINION While I am rebuilding the rear end. Any thought on this ? I need to replace the original ring gear cause it has a broken tooth. Does anybody have...

Shock Confusion Brass Model A shocks from Chicago revisited

Brian Thanks for the suggestion. I did go out to the site, and Peter Buciak of Chicago patened these in 1969. Interesting BTW, NICE Slant Windshield pic on side. That's what I'm working on now. Is your color scheme Chicle/Copra ? Is that the PPG paint that is to the green side. Those are the...
