    Can Rod Babbitts be ordered

So, I put a 5.5 head on my stock 1929 Model A 4 banger. Then I started to get some knocking - ok, I see people shaking their head yep. I assume the bottom end could not handle the higher compression. Correct me if I am wrong. But if that is the case, can I order a set of babbitts, or do they...

Physical difference in 4.5, 5.0 and 5.5:1 heads

I have multiple Model A heads in my garage. I can't remember which are good and which are not. Does anyone have a link or pictures of what the 4.5, 5, 5.5 and 6:1 heads look like. I once seen a picture that shows the physical differences, but have lost it. Appreciate it Dean

    Deep knocking sound

OK, when I retarded the timing the knock lessened. I pulled the copper connectors on each plug and no difference. Sounds like I need to drain the oil, pull the pan and look at and "adjusting the main bearing". This will be a new experience. And one I am hoping to only do once.

    Deep knocking sound

Yes, I am trying to isolate the issue, and appreciate all the feedback. It isn't the generator hitting anything.

    Deep knocking sound

Is this something new since the head was replaced? Have you driven it yet? With the higher compression heads they tend to knock much easier. Try to purposely set the timing retarded a bit more and give it a try to see if the noise goes away. Do you have full travel of the advance lever in...

    Deep knocking sound

So I cracked the head and replaced it with a 6:1 head. Now I have a deep loud knock as I start it and when it is idling, and then hit throttle. What do y'all think it is, and what kind of test do I need to do to confirm what the issue is?

    5.5 high compression head

With the standard head on my '29 pickup I had autolite 3076 spark plugs. Should I move to different plugs with HC head?

Can someone provide me the size of screw, or set screw that is used on the original distributor point block, to hold the adjustment in place for the points gap.

    Original Style Distributor

Yes, and that is what I have. I just pulled the distributor all apart and it appears that everything is there, I just need the bolt and washer. The condenser was touching the tab underneath, so the pickup was running. It just wasn't bolted to the plate.

Thank you GPierce. The issue I am trying to solve is "I have no screw in the end of the condenser"...And I can buy one but I am trying to understand how is that screw connected to the lower plate.

    Original Style Distributor

Yes I see that picture. It basically shows the condenser slides in and there is an screw -item #12 - that screws in the end of the condenser. I know there is a copper screw and fiber washer that screw in there https://www.brattons.com/searchprods.asp (second row down). Im looking to see how and...

    Original Style Distributor

Ok, so I have a '29 pickup and it has an occasional backfire out the exhaust. I have replaced the head, rebuilt the carburator and no change. I am thinking I have more or less pinpointed the issue down to the condenser. I have original distributor and the condenser slides in the side. I replaced...
