    1934 Phaeton Top Iron Hardware

It's time to get my old top irons re-chromed, which will require me to take them all apart. Does anyone have a source for all the various studs and rivets that the irons use?

Fuel Regulator for Steel Fuel Lines

Well, I plumbed a fuel pressure gauge into the steel fuel line today right off the fuel pump. Ran the car at different RPMs. At idle it reads 4.5 PSI, and at higher RMPs it never goes over 5 PSI. So I think I can safely rule out the fuel pump as the cause of the carb flooding. To see a short...

    Flooding problem

Yes, the car has it's original 256 per the cast markings on the block by the carb. All stock. I just picked up a fuel pressure gauge and the right tee block to plumb it into the steel line. I'll post some photos and reading when I get it installed over the weekend.

    Flooding problem

What should the correct fuel pressure be for this carb? 3-5 psi?

    Flooding problem

Here are photos of the pump and the carb showing where gas is leaking after about 10 miles of driving. I emptied the pump gas bowl so you can see the screen inside a little better. Somehow gas is filling the accelerator pump chamber, overspilling to the connecting rod, and running down the rod...

    Flooding problem

I run only ethanol free gas. The pump is a Ford script OEM pump that I rebuilt with modern components. Gas tank is new. I do not run a fuel filter other than the strainer in the pump's glass bowl.

    Flooding problem

Seems like one problem after another trying to get my '54 Mercury 256 Y Block to run smoothly. First it was the Holly teapot 4 barrel carburetor, so I replaced it with one of Sal's carbs. Next it was a fuel supply issue that turned out to be a mud wasp nest blocking the gas tank vent tube. Now...

    Rhinebeck car and swap meet

I grew up in the area and used to love going to this show. I need to make it up there again but can't make this show. Does anyone know the dates of the fall meet?

    1954 Mercury Fuel Issue

I don't see the need to put the auxiliary electric pump on a by-pass circuit. The pump I bought is flow-thru and my stock mechanical pump pulls like a clydesdale. I'm going to use a momentary switch wired to a battery power source, which eliminates the need for a relay and for wiring through an...

Fuel Regulator for Steel Fuel Lines

Hi Folks. Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a good quality fuel regulator with flare fitting for steel fuel lines? All the stuff I've found so far has rubber hose fittings.

    1954 Mercury Fuel Issue

If I'm using a momentary toggle switch to turn on the pump (to prime the teapot), do I really need to worry about including a relay powered through an ignition power source and an oil pressure sensor as described in the diagram? I was just going to wire from a battery power source to a momentary...

    239 Y-Block duel exhaust

If you do go with a dual exhaust setup, be sure to relocate the front steel fuel line. Here's where I plumbed the line on my '54 Mercury Monterey with dual exhaust. It originally ran on the other side of the steering box, and would boil the gas in the line after the exhaust got up to temperature.

    1954 Mercury Fuel Issue

A couple of questions when plumbing and wiring these Airtex auxiliary pumps. Plumbing - Do folks usually put shutoff valves on either side of the pump for ease of servicing and fuel filter changes? Does the Airtex provide enough flow-thru when switched off? I want to use it as a priming pump...

Although I hate to do it, does anyone have a recommendation for a good 6 volt priming electric fuel pump?

    1954 Mercury Fuel Issue

I am running one of Sal's teapot carbs on my Mercury. If I pour a little gas down the barrels the car fires right up. If I don't I have to crank it quite a bit to get it to fire. The longer it's been sitting, the longer I need to crank it. Sal, any suggestions?
