My engine has a ticking noise that increases with rpm and can be heard at idle when stopped. I think it is a valve clearance noise. If it is valve noise is it normal? I have heard it on some other A's but not all. Thanks, Bill G

How can I tell if a Houdaille shock is for CW or CCW action if it is not marked. I have 25 old shocks on my bench and not one is marked. Bill G

Dann, There is a hard stop---no screw adjustment--- on the throttle against the carb. The accelerator rod should allow the throttle to touch the stop. Check that the hand throttle does too. Bill G

Again, it doesn't matter. The space is fixed between the crank pulley rim and engine mount flange as long as the mount is attached to the engine. And the starting crank does enter the bushing -- works fine.

I can not change my fan belt without removing the front engine mount screws from the engine and raising the engine about 1/16" to let the belt pass through the gap between the crank pulley rim and the flange of the forged motor mount. I have been using a BX cross-section belt that is 13/32"...

Problem was shifting from 1st to 2nd across the middle and occasional lockup at intersections. Poeple don't like old cars that hols up traffic. Looked at alignment of forks on the shifting shafts and it is obvious forks don't line up side to side when in neutral. I will have to alter one or both.
