40 Deluxe hood latch weakness explored

Yes, I see the difference and recall clearly when I first looked over my 40 Fordor that the owner cautioned me never to lift the hood with the release handle. Now I can see why…

    1940 ford deluxe radio

My 1940 radio is wired to the firewall block where the ignition resistor and circuit breaker is located. It’s wired to the far right post which is the hot side of the circuit breaker. The wire to the radio has an inline fuse.

'40 rear fender rub one side only

It’s unlikely but the transverse spring might not be centered. The bolt that holds the spring together has a square head that fits into a square hole in the center of the rear cross member. It’s not too much of a job to undo the 4 nuts that hold the spring up into the cross member and check...

mitchel overdrive for 40 four door

I have the Mitchell 26% unit with the original 4.11 rear end. It was relatively easy to install. I chose the cable shift. The forward edge of the Mitchell is very close to the rear edge of the footwell. Once when I inadvertently hit a deep dip, the rebound caused the edge to hit the rear of...

What top speed translates to maximum revs?

I’ve used this calculator for many years. It’s helpful if you are thinking of a differential ratio or overdrive change. Also it helps if you start thinking about changing tire size. https://www.advanced-ev.com/Calculators/TireSize/

My "T" is a little gutless!

As Gary said above, try finding the timing sweet spot and then try adjusting the carburetor control under the dash to find the smoothest engine. I do this in low gear so I don't have to be going too fast.

Can a Ford Model A fix an otherwise ruined day?

I just drove my 29 standard coupe to a meeting of the newly established Monadnock chapter of MAFCA in Keene, NH. It was a chilly 25° when I left but the Autolite heater kept me warm on the 25 mile journey from my home. I made the meeting on the dot of 9:00, the scheduled meeting time, came...

Fuse on top of the starter blows twice.

I had that problem once and it was the base of the generator cutout grounding out. But as all have said you need to systematically go through all the wiring to find the short.

Are 40 drum two peice drums, want to install new wheel cylinders

Bruce, check on the Early V8 club site to find a club near you. If there’s a contact number call and ask about a puller. BTW, if you buy the suggested puller, you will find that you use it fairly frequently for servicing the rear brakes. Plus, you'll have many friends who will want to borrow it!

What weight oil should I use - Brand?

Lots of opinions and suggestions but you won’t go wrong either with 15-40 Rotella or any brand 20-50. Chalk up your 10-30 experience as a quick oil change to clean out the engine. Good luck and have fun with your car.
