    Crime Does Not Pay.

A used car dealer who was a product of the Depression era heated used oil and ran it through an old cream separator before putting it back in the car. Now that’s an oil change! The used car dealer was my grandfather...

The Mystery of the Right Side Spare Tire on my 1930 PU?

I have a late 1931 closed cab steel roof wide body that came to me with both left and right side mounts. Both sides have support brackets that are bolted and appear identical. It has the indented firewall. Any ideas on that combo? Mike in Maine

    found an A for sale

I just found this post so I thought I would take a few minutes to reply and provide an update on this truck. I ended up purchasing the truck in December after some long process negotiations. As the gentleman pointed out, we have no money here in Maine so purchases like this are very difficult...

    31 CCPU splash shield replacement

It's a Budd cab wide body pickup with dual sidemounts. At this point I was only replacing the passenger side. The rust is minimal but there was collision damage from many years ago not fixed well and with lots of filler so I thought I would repair it a little better and paint it well enough to...

    31 CCPU splash shield replacement

that's what I'm hoping.. The new shields haven't arrived yet so I don't have much to go by. Hopefully someone here on the forum that's "been there" can give me a clue which bolts I need to attack and which one can be left alone. thanks Mike

    31 CCPU splash shield replacement

I just ordered a set of running board splash shield replacements as I'm doing some fender repair and running board replacement anyway. After getting under and looking, it appears I might have a large project coming. Does the cab have to be lifted off the frame to replace the shields? I was...

Running boards on 31 Budd cab

Well, I guess I'm good to go! The sap is about done and whatever we collect this weekend the grandkids are doing all the gathering and boiling (mostly because they like clowning around with the snowmobile) and next week I will be painting rims, running boards, mounting tires and other prep to...

Running boards on 31 Budd cab

I'm in a bit of a quandry.. Being a little green to this and a little excited to get things together (once I'm done boiling sap) I ordered a new set of running boards for my truck. I just realized the ones I ordered are the rubber mat ones as opposed to the commercial ones that are presently...

Best way to enter and exit 31 CCPU

This one is a 31 Budd cab (indented firewall) with the wide bed. I did some more practicing and I think with the backing in and sliding toward the passenger side before tucking my feet into the pedals I will be fine. I can definitely see a slimmer seat back in my future also.

Best way to enter and exit 31 CCPU

Just came back in from tinkering and I'm relieved to see I'm not alone in this. I think the thinner seat back is an excellent idea. While I was in the garage I tried a few different approaches to entry and it seems the most graceful for me is to sit down, back to and then slide my backside...

Best way to enter and exit 31 CCPU

After a few weeks of learning and tinkering on my first Model A the weather is getting to the point here in Maine where I can occasionally move it out of the garage to use the space for other projects. I have really noticed how difficult it is to get my 6 foot 230 lb beat up body in and out of...

Right Front Fender for 31 CCPU with fenderwell

TTT - one more try. My truck was originally a 6 wheel I guess and somewhere during its life it got whacked on the right fender and they just cut out the wheel well and support and patched the holes with sheet metal. If I cant find a fender soon a friend and I will try to do a fair looking job...

New to the Forum and 1931 Closed cab pickup

Small world because the old teacher I had that first put the bug in my mind that I wanted a Model A truck by driving his back in the 60's had a dark green 51 Champ sitting right beside it in the barn that he had also bought new... suicide doors if I remember right? He had a 58 Caddy also...

New to the Forum and 1931 Closed cab pickup

I'm stylin! Starter with new bendix spring installed and it fired right up and runs like a champ. Found some more history on it dating back to the 60's. It appears the truck was all black originally. The cabs staying red for now..

Serial number on 1931 Model A truck question

puttering this morning while waiting for the garage to warm up enough to play and I decided to see if I could find what the date of manufacture of the 31 Budd cab truck I just acquired was. It is A4846xxx which I find to be a Feb of 32 manufacture. This is the number on the registrations back...

New to the Forum and 1931 Closed cab pickup

must be the one Keith... too much coincidence not to be. What were the clues that made you think it was "put together"? Did you notice the patch in the right fender where the spare was? That was done years ago. If so it is the one. I'm not curious enough to yank the body off to find the...
