Depending on how long ago the shoes were replaced could be a problem. I was just looking at info that said asbestos was still being used in brake pad manufacturing through the 1990's and probably longer. Be careful and do some detective work.

I think the track drops on to a little hook at the bottom of the steel channel. If the panel is off and the seat is out you can see it from the side. Fronts have a screw in the top of them on the flat of the channel. They can take some muscle to pull them out. Hope this helps.

Will jacking up the front of the motor a couple of inches facilitate getting the left header on? As you lower the motor you would be able to see where the "contact" points are.
