    Steering end play

I did the original post....I adjusted everything. The steering shaft slides in and out and the wheels don't move. I think the shaft is loose on the worm gear. The steering was a little loose so I was planning to pull the steering box apart within the next year or so anyway.

    Steering end play

I have a 1930 Tudor and the other day I climbed over the seat and pulled on the steering wheel and it pulled out about 3/4 of an inch. I pushed it back in and drove the car home with no issues. I decided to try and adjust the end play of the steering box and it still has the same end play. My...

    Gas mileage question

I started this thread and reading through the comments there are a couple of things that seem to make a big difference.....high compression heads and overdrive gearing. I don't have either of those. It seems that at higher speeds a high compression head and proper gearing could greatly improve...

    Gas mileage question

Hello...I have a 1930 Tudor that I often drive to work. It is about 11 miles each way and I drive about 48mph for 6 miles and 53mph for 5 miles....only one stop. The car runs smooth and I checked the plugs and they only have a slight brown tint after about five thousand miles. No carbon build...

    Acetylene Headlights on a 13-14 T

If I read the article on the MTFCA forum correctly, if you use the .75 CFM acetylene burners the light output would be about the same as the standard 6v model A low beam lights. It would not be anything I would want to drive in traffic with, but I could get home if needed. If I find...

    Acetylene Headlights on a 13-14 T

Hello, I am getting closer to purchasing a brass era T and I am trying to figure out a few things before I go through with a purchase. I am looking at some very original 1913 and 1914 cars. If I purchase one I plan to add LED brake lights and turn signals, but am wondering if I need to...

Brass Touring tops and side curtains

Oh..thank you for the information about the colors...I did not know there were so few colors available in 1913 and 1914. My wife really likes the way the early cars look with their brass and bright colors. I like to drive my cars so I am looking for something I can get lots of aftermarket...

Brass Touring tops and side curtains

Thank you for the feedback..... As I look through the catalogs I find it is easier to get 1914 parts, but I am looking for a car that is not black. I have found several nice 1913s and early 1914s and they all seem to be painted black...even though lots of these were painted other colors from...

Brass Touring tops and side curtains

Hello, I want to buy a 1913 or early 1914 Model T non-black in color touring car. I like the fact that Model T's came in multiple colors until the middle of 1914 and I would like to find a brass non-black model T touring car. One of the concerns I have is that it seems to be harder...

    Benefits of a thermostat?

I run a 180 degree thermostat and so far it runs at 180 in the summer, but struggles a bit to get up to 180 in the winter. Overall the car gets up to operating temperature much quicker and runs a lot better. Since most of my trips are less than an hour long I have not experienced any of the...

    New Shoes !

I put the same radial whitewall tires on my 1930 Tudor earlier this year (about 6000 miles ago) and they make the car drive smoother, quieter and handle better. My next project is an upgrade to the brakes.

    Engine heat in cold weather

Hello....I live in Michigan and it gets cold here so I added a hot water heater to my 1930 Tudor so I could stay a little warmer in the winter. I put a 180 degree thermostat in the car so the engine would run warmer. Unfortunately I found when I run the heater at full speed when it is really...

How Many 2020 Miles Did You Drive

I drove about 6000 miles this year. It would have been more, but I had a wheel bearing go bad and there was a shortage of wheel bearings earlier this year. I was lucky and actually found some new old stock USA made Timken bearings. All the driving was within about 50 miles of home. Even with...

What is a "reasonable" speed in a Model A for one to get "reasonable" engine life?

Re: What is a "reasonable" speed in a Model A for one to get "reasonable" engine life I have a 1930 Tudor and it is happy at 45-52 all day long. It will run up to 60 fairly easy, but you can tell it is unhappy spinning that fast. I plan to add an overdrive, but I plan to rebuild the brakes...

Oil Breather tube 20 inch flex tube

I have very little blow by from my engine so there was hardly any smell, but my wife could smell it. The breather tube helped.

Model A hot water heater installation

The thermostat is in the upper hose by the radiator neck. The water inlet has a special pick up to help direct water into the heater. There seems to be plenty of water circulating through the heater because it gets hot right away and seem to stay hot as I am driving. It was in the upper 30s...

Model A hot water heater installation

Hello, My cooling system works well and I have a firewall insulator on my car so I run a nice warm 180 degree thermostat year round. The engine can run warm and efficient without cooking the passengers in the summer, and hopefully keep the passengers warm on those cold Michigan fall/winter...

Model A hot water heater installation

Hello all, I purchased a brand new A-18480 (6v) hot water heater for my 1930 Tudor from Snyder's Antique Auto Parts. It seemed to be a good heater with a really interesting variable speed rheostat control, but I could not figure out how to make it fit in my car. It would not fit on the...

    Radial sway

I have a 1930 Tudor that had bias ply Firestone tires on for years. Last year I put a set of American Classic Tubed Radial Whitewalls (Made in USA) on my car and have put 5000 miles on the car in the last year. I run 35psi of pressure in the tires so they always look a little low, but they are...
